چکیده

In heuristic search planning, state-space symmetries are mostly ignored by both the search algorithm and the heuristic guidance. Only recently, Pochter, Zohar, and Rosenschein (2011) introduced an effective framework for detecting and accounting for state symmetries within A∗ cost-optimal planning. We extend this framework in order to allow usage of strictly larger symmetry groups. This enables more efficient pruning of strictly larger parts of the search space. Our approach is based on exploiting information about the parts of the transition system being gradually revealed by the search algorithms, such as A∗, WA∗ or even GBFS. In our work we will expand the use of cost-optimal planning by Pochter, Zohar, and Rosenschein (2011) to forward statespace search planning, and present two implementations of this framework using different pruning algorithms. Our aim is to evaluate their effectiveness both theoretically and prac-

Symmetry Breaking: Satisficing Planning and Landmark Heuristics

Searching for computational tools that can further push the boundary of satisficing planning, we show that reasoning about state-space symmetries can substantially improve even the most effective heuristic-search satisficing planners, with respect to all standard performance measures. The improvement comes from the state-space pruning, as well as from transparent cost-to-state updates and heuri...

The More, the Merrier: Combining Heuristic Estimators for Satisficing Planning

We empirically examine several ways of exploiting the information of multiple heuristics in a satisficing best-first search algorithm, comparing their performance in terms of coverage, plan quality, speed, and search guidance. Our results indicate that using multiple heuristics for satisficing search is indeed useful. Among the combination methods we consider, the best results are obtained by t...

A Complete Algorithm for Generating Landmarks

A collection of landmarks is complete if the cost of a minimum-cost hitting set equals h and there is a minimumcost hitting set that is an optimal relaxed plan. We present an algorithm for generating a complete collection of landmarks and we show that this algorithm can be extended into effective polytime heuristics for optimal and satisficing planning. The new admissible heuristics are compare...

Who Said We Need to Relax All Variables?

Despite its success in both satisficing and optimal planning, the delete relaxation has significant pitfalls in many important classes of planning domains, and it has been a challenge from the outset to devise heuristics that take some deletes into account. We herein devise an elegant and simple method for doing just that. In the context of finite-domain state variables, we define red variables...

When Abstractions Met Landmarks

Abstractions and landmarks are two powerful mechanisms for devising admissible heuristics forions and landmarks are two powerful mechanisms for devising admissible heuristics for classical planning. Here we aim at putting them together by integrating landmark information into abstractions, and propose a concrete realization ofions, and propose a concrete realization of this direction suitable f...
